The Berlin Wall was built overnight, which became once an international symbol of government oppression, the Berlin Wall now represents the resiliency of the human spirit. Erected in the dead of the night on August 13th, 1961, Berliners would wake up to find they had been divided into two blocs, separated from family and friends. Nearly 4 decades and approximately 200 unnecessary deaths later, East Germans would reclaim their freedom on November 9th, 1989. Since that date, the Berlin Wall has stood as a global pilgrimage site, calling all walks of life to look upon it and wonder. It transcends race, religion, and politics as proof that no matter how oppressed a people may be, there is always hope for tomorrow.
